On this #EuropeDay, we remember the Schuman Declaration of 1950, a groundbreaking moment in European integration. Robert Schuman's vision of peace and cooperation remains relevant today, reminding us that cooperation is the key to a stronger and more resilient Europe.
Event at the European Parliament
On Wednesday 8 April 2026, the European Movement in Belgium organised a meeting at the European Parliament with its members. We had the opportunity to meet our president, Wouter Beke, a Member of the European Parliament for the EPP (European People’s Party). He spoke to us about his experience as an MEP since 2024, introduced us to the committees he sits on in Parliament, and told us about the issues he is currently working on. It was a very interesting presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session which allowed everyone to engage with our president and ask him questions. This session sparked interesting discussions on the Green Deal, as well as European defence and the Russo-Ukrainian war.
After the meeting with our President, we had the opportunity to tour the Parliament, including the Hemicycle, where one of our President’s assistants explained how it worked in this room. Our Secretary-General, Ruben Lombaert, also addressed us briefly, providing further information. We were also able to walk inside the Parliament buildings. This visit allowed us to learn more about how the European Parliament works.
