General information
How does the EMiB work?
The European Movement in Belgium works, for its projects, with a dedicated team of volunteers, both inside and outside the organisation.
All projects are coordinated within the governing body, where a number of functions are brought together. Some of these functions are mentioned in the articles of association and required by law.
Project-based operation
For the organization of actions and events, one or more people are always asked to take the lead and organize or follow up this event in detail. This person ensures the smooth running, and works with the other members of the governing body on issues such as the proper submission of the project documents, communication via social media, required signatures, funding, etc.
Who “pulls” a project depends on interest, available time and possibilities, but sufficient internal and external cooperation and support is always ensured.
Which profiles are being sought for the Board?
Below you will find an overview and what we mean by this. Interested? Join us and apply! If you are interested in becoming involved in our activities and projects, please contact us at info@mouvement-europeen.be.
Profile: President
The President of the European Movement is presiding over the, currently monthly, board meeting and does so on a purely voluntary basis. The President is in principle ensuring the general management of the organisation and divides the work to be done among the various board members.
In case of events organised by the European Movement, the President is usually present and introduces or concludes the event. He or she is the voice and face of the organisation in media and towards commercial or institutional partners. The President is also the first representative of the Belgium division within the European Movement international organisation.
Finally, he or she is the backup of the secretary, in case the latter cannot execute the function.
Profile: Treasurer
Jointly with the secretary who deals with the membership administration, the treasurer is charged with the follow-up of membership payments. The treasurer ensures the final reporting to board meetings, prepares the yearly budget draft for the general assembly and does invoicing where applicable. He or she is moreover the person filling out (the finance part of) subvention applications and is, most importantly, the person entrusted with all sponsorship management, i.e. the identification of, outreach to and coordination of potential sponsors.
Profile: Vice-President
The Vice-President of the European Movement is replacing the President as chair of the board meeting, whenever the latter is unavailable. The vice-president ensures the systematic follow-up, and co-organises wherever necessary, of all communications via all channels and of events that have been or are yet to be organised. The vice-president is the person who takes care of, or helps developing, the relations with the European Movement International and the Young European Federalists division in Belgium. The Vice-President is the back-up of the President.
Profile: Secretary-General
The secretary-general is, together with the vice-president and president, key to the smooth functioning of the European Movement in Belgium. In this sense, he/she follows and coordinates the organisations’ work. The secretary reports to the board, and is tasked with reporting about board meetings. The secretary further represents the organisation at European Movement International Board meetings and communicates with its secretariat when necessary. The secretary-General is the person responsible for all membership administration. Jointly with the president and vice-president, he or she also ensures the general management and follow-up of work. Lastly, the treasurer is charged with the aspects related to the formal ASBL/VZW structure such as the statutes or the communication with authorities. The secretary is the back-up of the treasurer.
Profile: Communication officers
The two communication officers divide between themselves all tasks related to the Movement’s communication. This include the organisation’s e-mail inbox management, the drafting, lay-outing and sending of newsletters, the development of our social media strategy, etc. They ensure the development of communications materials and its distribution though the organisation’s website, social media channels and other means.
The communication officers also maintain the website and ensure the contacts with the web host. Where necessary, communication officers provide support in written communication, and proactively search for content, be it through establishing relations with content partners, through content sharing or through outreach to voluntary contributors inside or outside the organisation.
