On April 19, 2023, we learned of the passing of our former Chairman and Honorary Chairman, Charles-Ferdinand Nothomb. Charles-Ferdinand, who, after a life in the highest echelons of Belgian politics, also found time to support and lead the European Movement in Belgium, first as Vice-President, and from 2003 as President. Under his inspiring presidency, the movement grew and various activities were launched that made the role of European integration in our lives more visible.

 

The European Movement and many board members remember Charles-Ferdinand as a warm person, committed to Europe and his own part of it ("La Grande Région" - being the province of Luxembourg and the neighboring regions in the neighboring countries). As chairman, he insisted on everyone's individuality and led the meeting where everyone spoke their own mother tongue.

 

In 2021 he spoke to us during a board meeting, in which he explained to us his projects at the time and listened with interest to ours. His energy seemed inexhaustible.
