On this #EuropeDay, we remember the Schuman Declaration of 1950, a groundbreaking moment in European integration. Robert Schuman's vision of peace and cooperation remains relevant today, reminding us that cooperation is the key to a stronger and more resilient Europe.
The European Movement in Belgium organised a conference and a workshop on the future of Europe and the role of cities in European initiatives. The objective was to discuss key European initiatives and policies that matters the most for citizens and to explore what the European Union could do to adress them. Furthermore after this conference, the European Movement in Belgium rapported the result of this workshop to the Conference on the future of Europe platform for the European decision makers, so they can see what matters the most for Belgian citizens.
To achieve Belgian citizens were invited to discuss those different subject and take part in this interacrive initiatives. First, participants were asked to choose topics they considered the most important within the EU policies. Among those subjects were for examples "Climate change and the environement", "Migration", "Health" or "EU in the world".
After selecting the three most important issue for them, we did a workshop with three different groups, each one focussing on one question. They were supported by an expert or facilitator to discuss the topics. Discussionwere structured around two questions: "What should Europe do in this area?" and "What is the role of cities in this area?".
Finally, at the end of those workshops, each groups presented their recommendations and to conclude there was a discussion between participants and experts to allow further relection and exchanges around the different topics.
